Hi y'all,
So this is a blog about the highlights of my learnings this semester and my thoughts on the blogging assignments.
I've really enjoyed this course. I was initially weary about beginning to learn environmental and occupational health issues, as I've never been entirely drawn to these issues within the scope of my practice. However, I found the in-class discussions to be much more informative and engaging than I anticipated. I enjoyed that we discussed controversial ideas from many different perspectives and I appreciated our discussions on current happenings throughout the world. I also enjoyed both the book review and literature review assignments because they gave me a chance to synthesize everything that I was learning.
As for the blogging assignments, I must say that I wasn't entirely a fan. I've always felt that I learn best when I'm having discussions with other students and teachers during class, which is why I think I definitely learned the material during in-person weeks better than the material during online weeks. It was difficult to blog about many of the topics because it was my first time ever thinking about them, so I had more questions for the professor and other students to ask during class than actual content to write in the blog. Because of this, I spent a lot of time reading/rereading/reviewing the materials and wondering what I should write about, which made the blogs both more difficult to keep up with and longer to write.
With this being said, I really enjoyed the topics that we discussed in class with the professor and other students! Professor Sattler has so much knowledge about environmental health, health policy, and research; I was thoroughly impressed and appreciated this class.
