Hey y'all!
After looking through Fresno County's Department of Public Health website, I found some interesting environmental health programs overseen by the Environmental Health Division. The Milk Inspection Program ensures that milk produced on Fresno County dairies meets 'Grade A' milk standards, which is extremely important for public health safety, considering that there are over 100,000 dairy animals throughout the county. Because of Fresno County's heavy milk production, this program is considered to be critical to the health and safety of the entire county. The Water Well Permitting Program ensures that the construction and maintenance of private wells doesn't jeopardize the health and safety of those individuals whose water comes from those wells. HazMat Compliance ensures that the safety of individuals who come in contact with hazardous materials is monitored and addressed adequately.
It's interesting to discover that programs such as these exist, because I didn't know anything about them until now. The implementation of such programs is extremely important for public health and safety, which is why I find it important to advocate for more regulatory programs and policies that protect the health of the general population.

I feel like there are so many more resources to help people navigate their health, but they just don't know where to go. Most people go to their doctors and such, but when it comes to environmental health information our local department of health should do a better job at being present and a source for information like this.
ReplyDeleteThat is so interesting, how these programs are so tailored community by community. You do not normally think of milk as a public health crisis, but the quality of the milk produced could be a health and safety concern.
