ToxNet!

Hey everyone~

For this blog post, I looked up urea formaldehyde and bleach on the National Library of Medicine's ToxNet database.

Urea formaldehyde:

  • Individuals exposed to low concentrations of formaldehyde may experience eye, skin, nose, and throat irritation
  • Drinking large concentrations of formaldehyde can result in severe illness and/or death
  • Individuals working in areas with increased exposure to formaldehyde have an increased risk of dying from myeloid leukemia or cancer of the nose or pharynx

Bleach:

  • When exposed to high vapor levels, individuals can develop irritation of the skin, eyes, nose, and throat
  • Direct contact with undiluted liquid chlorine can burn the skin or eyes

  1. I don't know about you, but I feel like I understood the dangers of Bleach since it is this common household item that we use on a weekly basis, but it is crazy that we don't understand these dangers of formaldehyde, which we can be exposed to through much of our building material.
