Consumer Confidence Reports!

Hey y'all!

This is a blog about the Consumer Confidence Report (CCR) for my drinking water source in Fresno, CA.

What is the source of your drinking water? Where does your water originate?
Fresno's water is derived from both the Fresno Sole Source Aquifer and the Fresno Irrigation District canals at either Millerton or Pine Flat lakes located in the Fresno foothills.

What chemicals were found in your water that were higher than expected?
The following chemicals were found in our water that were a bit higher than expected, but are within the standard range for safety levels as determined by the City of Fresno: cis-1,2-dichloroethylene, tetrachloroethylene, trichloroethylene, and dibromochloropropane.

What chemicals did you not expect to find in your water?
I never thought about the possibility that arsenic would be in our water. However, it can only be found in trace amounts and is still at a lower level than the water quality for California.

Are there associated health risks with the chemicals found in your water?
Immunocompromised persons such as persons who have undergone organ transplants, people with HIV/AIDS or other immune system disorders, some elderly people, infants, and persons with cancer undergoing chemotherapy may be more vulnerable to contaminants in drinking water.

Where does your water come from?
Our water comes from the Northeast Surface Water Treatment Facility in northeast Fresno or the T-3 Water Storage and Treatment Facility in southeast Fresno.

What did you discover about your water quality?
When I lived in Fresno, we were always told that our water quality wasn't that great because of the agriculture in the Central Valley. However, looking at the CCR for the Fresno community, I found that our water is pretty safe to drink in comparison to other cities in California.

Do you use a filter for your water?
At our house, we filter water through the refrigerator.

What are you trying to filter out?
Much of the water in Fresno contains many hard minerals (e.g., calcium), which is what we try to filter out through our refrigerator.

Do you drink bottled water?
My parents prefer to drink bottled water because it tastes better than the water we have in Fresno. I drink filtered tap water to reduce my plastic usage.

  1. So interesting, these types of reduced guidelines and regulations on specific chemicals just feel like another way that those most vulnerable are taken advantage of. Because they are not able to speak up there is no change. Thanks for the share.
